Exactly 7 days ago, three of our team members were at the Rio Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas showcasing our QoE monitoring and optimization platform and we still can’t get enough sleep to make up for an exhausting yet intensely rewarding week at WISPAPALOOZA ’17. It took us months and months of preparation given the importance WISPAPALOOZA has in our industry and we couldn’t be happier with the results.
Starting off on our pre-event promotion on social media and WISPA email blasts, we tried to pre-book dedicated times for meetings with existing customers as well as demos for prospective WISPs. This allowed us to make the best use of our time between sessions and closed exhibit hall hours and answer in-depth questions from operators. Given our nimble approach and small size, it took us just 40 minutes to set up our booth table #9 in the Exhibit Hall and we were all set to meet and greet our clients.
On day 1 (Master Monday), we had Dan Siemon from our team conduct a short presentation on subscriber QoE monitoring during Sonar’s day-long training and fielded some interesting questions from the participants. Until the last day of the event, we had participants from this session ask us questions about our API integration with Sonar and how they can get actionable QoE metrics in their network using automatic network topology detection.
On day 2 and the first official day at WISPAPALOOZA ’17, we listened to the opening remarks where the fact that this year’s event was the biggest ever industry gathering with over 1780 attendees and 118+ vendors was celebrated. The speed dating sessions were fun and had some interesting icebreaker questions (like if you can get 1 superpower, what would that be?) as well as industry questions that allowed everyone to move around quickly and network with other attendees. Starting 12.30pm when the exhibit hall opened till late evening, we literally had no time to sit and were constantly answering questions on how our platform can find & fix QoE issues for WISPs and help their network become more effective, efficient and profitable.
On day 3, we had an early morning start with Dan presenting on the QoE panel and Gerrit taking the stage on ‘network monitoring options for WISPs’. Dan highlighted how QoE monitoring differs from DPI and application-based monitoring platforms and why WISPs need to care about the QoE their network delivers to its subscribers. Gerrit’s focus was on highlighting the key shortcomings with traditional network monitoring tools that focus on monitoring routers, CPEs and not the real data traffic down to a subscriber level. In the evening after busy exhibit hours, we had the annual awards night where Preseem was one of the 3 nominees for ‘Service of the Year’ award. Very professionally conducted, the awards night allowed participants to celebrate the best of the industry while gorging on amazing food and drinks. While we didn’t win the award, getting nominated itself is a major honor for us and being mentioned alongside Cambium Networks and Sonar shall remain a major highlight in our product as well as company journey.
Day 4 at WISPAPALOOZA ’17 was reserved for last minute operator discussions and the exhibit hall remained packed throughout the hours as attendees wanted to make the most of the opportunity to learn more about the latest offerings and technologies. There was some interesting prize draws including the one where Streakwave Wireless awarded a brand new truck to a lucky man (Patrick Markis of AZ AirNet)!
And yes, the fun and conversations continued every night from Monday-Thursday at the hospitality suites ably managed by Blair Davis of West Michigan WISP. This was one of the exclusive Palazzo Villas at Rio featuring an 8000 sq feet of space, 7 bedrooms, vanity washrooms, salon, whirlpool tub in the balcony and what not! You should check out the villa pictures here on Rio’s website to believe them.
While we couldn’t stay for the Fiber Friday event, all in all, WISPAPALOOZA ’17 was one of the best industry events we have ever attended as professionals and we thank WISPA and all the organizers for putting on a great show. A lot of learning, the start of (hopefully) long-term relationships and most importantly a great deal of fun is how we would summarize our WISPAPALOOZA ’17 experience.
Despite a packed schedule of pre-booked meetings, training sessions, partner vendor promotions, annual awards nomination and consistently busy booth, we did manage to capture some of the moments on our phone cameras. Here’s a quick video we created with images and videos around Preseem’s showcase at WISPAPALOOZA ’17 and we hope you like it.
If you were at the event, please comment below with your thoughts on the event. If you weren’t, we hope that you’re able to travel to WISPAPALOOZA 2018 at Las Vegas scheduled for Oct 8-Oct 12, 2018. Trust us, it’ll be worth your time!
